#1 Gifford Pinchot was a bit odd, but he was self-aware enough to know that he was considered strange. #3 Roosevelt and Pinchot agreed to a boxing match. Pinchot was a backup quarterback on the football team at Yale, and he was quick on his feet for a big man. He was a little worried about his six-inch height advantage over T. R. , who stood five feet eight inches.

#4 Roosevelt had a very delayed adolescence, as he was always looking out for his best interests. He married the beautiful Alice Hathaway Lee in 1884, and was elected to the New York Assembly the same year. He was Republican minority leader at twenty-five.
