And you thought dying once would be hard...
On the morning before her 67th death, it is business as usual for agent Jesse Sullivan: meet with the mortician, counsel soon-to-be-dead clients, and have coffee while reading the latest regeneration theory. Jesse dies for a living, literally. Because of a neurological disorder, she is one of the rare people who can serve as a death surrogate, dying so others don't have to.
Although each death replacement is different, the result is the same: a life is saved, and Jesse resurrects days later with sore muscles, new scars, and another hole in her memory. But when Jesse is murdered and becomes the sole suspect in a federal investigation, more than her freedom and sanity are at stake. She must catch the killer herself--or die trying.
Dying for a Living is the first book in Kory M. Shrum's gripping contemporary fantasy series. If you like page-turning action, tough as nails heroines, and perfectly-paced suspense, then you'll love this "hilarious" and "supernaturally fantastic" ride.

Reread and I stand by the 3.4 stars I gave it last timeJesse is sassy and sarcastic, and she can die for in your place. At first, it seems all backed up by the science of this world. But angels make it paranormal and expand the world more, in my opinion. The angel doesn't seem like a love interest, but the author has a way of leaving doors open. Not in annoying, now nothing makes sense way. But more in a oooo maybe it could go that way. There are options, and they will not harm the quest of the plot. The plot is that someone is trying to kill her and others like her. She's not out trying to find who. She just becomes a victim, and then it's a...well, now I have to find them before they find me type plot. The FMC also has some dark history, so be aware that child abuse and rape are mentioned. It's a good book, but I expected more spice. Instead of a slow burn romance. It's more of a slow learn to love romance. Two love interests, one woman, one man, a pug, and an angel. 3.4 stars
