This book is worth a read. The world, plot, and characters are well developed. It's doesn't seem like it is based on our world, so comments I've read about the words used being too modern sometimes. To me, it is not true. Who knows what would happen in a world with magic? There may not be the advancements in technology like there is now. After all, who needs tech when you have technology. So yea, I can see a world near the times of horses and castles, but the language still developed enough to have some modern phrases. The world is one split between fae, shifters, witches, vampires (children of darkness), and humans. A war in the past has created this divide, and our characters are on their own missions, during which they meet each other.Scarlet is fierce and funny. But she is also young, although her upbringing and the world she grew up in means the age she is now is like being a 30 year old in growth and training. I don't think I can say more without giving more away.
