Mr.G.Gnanasambandan describes the "Life of Maruthu Pandiyars".The Maruthu Pandiyars (Periya Maruthu and Chinna Maruthu) were Diarchal Kings of Sivagangai, Tamil Nadu, India, towards the end of the 18th century. They were known for fighting against the East India Company. They were finally executed by the East India Company after being captured by them. Maruthu Brothers are good in aerodynamics and invented many variants of spears and Valari. They also founded guerilla war tactic in India during the early stages of colonization. A commemorative postage stamp was released in October 2004. Every year people conduct Maruthu Pandiyars Guru Pooja at the Kalayarkovil temple in October.

மருது பாண்டியர் எனப்படும் மருது சகோதரர்கள் தமிழ்நாட்டில் ஆங்கிலேயருக்கு எதிரான விடுதலைப் போராட்ட முன்னோடிகளுள் குறிப்பிடத்தக்கவர்கள். ஆங்கிலேயரைத் தமிழ் மண்ணிலிருந்து விரட்ட 1785 முதல் 1801 இறுதி வரை ஆயுதம் தாங்கிப் போராடினார்கள். பெரிய மருது, சின்ன மருது எனப்படும் இவர்கள் ஆங்கிலேயருக்கு எதிராகப் போராடிய அனைத்திந்திய குழுக்களையும் ஒன்றிணைத்துத் திரட்ட முயன்ற போதுதான் ஆங்கிலேயரின் அதிருப்திக்கும் கோபத்திற்கும் ஆளானார்கள். இவர்களது களம் சிவகங்கைச் சீமையைச் சேர்ந்த காளையார் கோயில் ஆகும். மருது சகோதரர்கள் பற்றி பேராசிரியர் முனைவர் கு ஞானசம்பந்தன் விரிவாக விவரிக்கிறார்.
