#2 The feud between Leno and Letterman was well known among their friends. Leno had taken over for Letterman as host of The Tonight Show, and Letterman had always wanted the job.

#3 The George stories were more accessible to an outsider. Elayne Boosler remembered a middle-of-the-night phone call she had with Miller in 1976, when he asked her for money so he could buy drugs. She gave him $75, and he called her an enabler years later because of it.
