The protagonist begins to enjoy herself while fighting off the feeling she's being followed. The creepy stalker and other strange coincidences lead her to believe she has lost touch with who she is. Could it be that she, too, is a sufferer of Stand-In Personality Disorder, the strange and life-changing disease that is afflicting so many young people and ruining their lives? Does this mean that she, too, will begin to dissociate and, eventually, become someone else entirely? Or is everything in her world—the lurid institution, her professional career, confusion about love and sex, the truth behind her own identity—all in her own head?
In stark, lyrical prose, Songs of the Maniacs shares a young woman's search for illumination as
she attempts to understand her past, present, and true self. When she allows herself to take a deeper look at the people and events that make up her life as a counselor for the insane, she is drawn into the hallucinogenic reality her clients are struggling to control. The hypnotic pull of the story lies in the mystery of the storyteller herself and her murky, uneasy sense of doom. Her world is a wounded one, but familiar and uncomfortably close to our own.

Carrion Men tells the dual tale of dog fighting in the city and a young woman's fight against mental illness over the space of a year in the heart of the city.
Scarlet works part time in a bookshop, is a successful freelance illustrator and has severe depression. As her condition worsens she starts to see a therapist and deal with her illness.
Thatch is a dogman, having spent years running dog fights and breeding grand champions he rents the building next to Scarlet's apartment to stage fights and train his animals. His protégée, Jas, is the son of his right-hand man. In the process of stealing dogs back from the police pound after a raid, Jas's father is arrested.
As Jas takes his father's place at Thatch's side, the law closes in on the gang and the police are tipped off about a dog fight. During the fight, police manage to break up Thatch's gang and make arrests.
Scarlet's friends support her and with their help she improves. However, the day to day pain of living with her illness makes her life unbearable. At the last, Scarlet wanders the city, no longer able to separate reality from the twisted illusion her illness has created.

All hell breaks out and a vicious fight ensues. Next day at dawn she knows what to do. Shaming her father, she flies to Syhlet alone, confronts the people who drugged, deceived and defrauded her, and returns with a proposal of her own.

Marg is the story of a 24 year-old Polish immigrant sex worker in London.
The story is told from Marg's point of view. She is initially a masseuse who provides 'out call' services with 'happy endings' to clients across London – as well as to those staying in the sad, business-focused hotels of Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton etc.
A husband and wife team called Antonio and Angie run the massage business. They provide lodgings for Marg (and other girls) and take 75% of her earnings for arranging clients, running a website, providing transport etc. However, Marg does not assume the traditional role of victim, choosing to work as she does, grappling with the ethics of it, and enjoying the money it brings.
Marg lodges in a block of flats in Finchley Central with three Romanian girls who also work as masseuses. She has no bedroom, so has to sleep on a mattress in the lounge. She is initially studying a distance learning course in Sports, Fitness and Management and dreams of returning to Poland once qualified to build a house, start a family and live happily.
But Marg is also struggling to deal with the recent death of her alcoholic father, after he walked out into the path of a British businessman's BMW on a Polish dual carriageway.
