Mulansathi Pather Panchali: Ambyachya Koyichi Pungi

'पथेर पांचाली' ही बंगाली कादंबरी विभूतीभूषण बंद्योपाध्याय यांनी 1929 मध्ये लिहिली, ती प्रचंड लोकप्रिय झाली. त्यानंतर त्यांनी स्वतःच त्या कादंबरीतून मुलांसाठी स्वतंत्र आवृत्ती 1942 मध्ये काढली, तिला त्यांनी 'आंब्याच्या कोयीची पुंगी' असे नाव दिले. त्या आवृत्तीला चित्रे काढण्याचे काम एका बावीस वर्षे वयाच्या तरुण चित्रकाराकडे सोपवले गेले. त्याचे नाव सत्यजित राय. त्या चित्रकाराच्या मनात ती कादंबरी इतकी रुतून बसली की, त्यानंतर बारा वर्षांनी त्याने एक चित्रपट दिग्दर्शित करायचे ठरवले तेव्हा ती कथा निवडली. 1955 मध्ये आलेला तो बंगाली चित्रपट भारतीय चित्रपटसृष्टीत माईलस्टोन ठरला. परिणामी 'पथेर पांचाली' ही कादंबरी आणखी चर्चिली गेली, वेगवेगळ्या भाषांमध्ये अनुवादित झाली. मात्र मुलांसाठी केलेली ती छोटी आवृत्ती बंगालीमध्ये प्रचंड लोकप्रिय असूनही अन्य भाषांमध्ये फारशी अनुवादित झाली नाही. आता मराठीमध्ये प्रथमच आली आहे आणि तीसुद्धा सत्यजित राय यांनी बंगाली आवृत्तीसाठी केलेली चित्रे व मुखपृष्ठ यांच्यासह...! या ऑडिओ बुक मधील संगीत दिले आहे रिजू बॅनर्जी या दहा वर्षांच्या मुलाने..

'Pather Panchali' a Bengali novel written by Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay in 1929, became immensely popular. He then published a separate version of the novel for children in 1942, naming it 'Ambyachya Koichi Pungi'. The work of creating drawings for that version was entrusted to a young Artist of twenty-two years named Satyajit Ray. The novel was so ingrained in the Artist's mind that twelve years later when he decided to direct a film he chose the same story. The 1955 Bengali film 'Pather Panchali' became a milestone in Indian cinema. As a result, the novel 'Pather Panchali' became even more popular and was translated into different languages.However, the short version for children was very popular in Bengali but was not much translated into other languages. Now it has been translated in Marathi for the first time and that too with the same illustrations and cover made by Satyajit Ray for the Bengali version...!
