Art Nouveau: The Aesthetic Movement of the 19th and Early 20th Centuries

Art Nouveau, a movement that flourished at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, is often regarded as one of the most influential and distinctive artistic styles in modern history. The name “Art Nouveau,” meaning “new art” in French, reflects its fundamental aim to break away from the historical and rigid artistic norms that dominated the earlier part of the century. This movement sought to create a new, modern aesthetic that would harmonize art, design, and nature, and to reject the academic traditions and industrialization that had shaped society.

Art Nouveau advocated for unity in all art forms, encouraging collaboration across disciplines such as architecture, graphic design, interior decoration, and jewelry making. It embraced the idea that art should be a seamless part of everyday life, making art accessible and functional while maintaining beauty.
