I really wanted to like this book. And it's alright, really, but some things in it rubbed me the wrong way and I just couldn't shake them off (no spoilers) :1. Past and present selves hang out, interact, even collaborate willy-nilly with each other. This was the biggest "nope" for me. Not that it would be impossible should time travel becomes possible, but that it ought to cause far more drastic effects both mentally to the self and to the time-line. Talk about unresolved paradoxes... I wish there was some more elegant way to explain this than "they accept it".2. The Conclave. It rly sounded a lot like the Ministry of Magic from HP and I've found this very distracting.3. Most of the characters felt very one-directional to me. I'm sure they could've been written a bit more complex and even where they did have complexity in their origin story, it was written up rushed and undeservedly in passing. 4. I really didn't enjoy the "petulant child" voices given to a number of characters.
