A fantasy like you've never read before."?#1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout Enter the brutal and elite world of a war college for dragon riders from USA Today bestselling author Rebecca Yarros. Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away … because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them. With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their own chances of success. The rest would kill her just for being her mother’s daughter—like Xaden Riorson, the most powerful and ruthless wingleader in the Riders Quadrant. She’ll need every edge her wits can give her just to see the next sunrise. Yet, with every day that passes, the war outside grows more deadly, the kingdom’s protective wards are failing, and the death toll continues to rise. Even worse, Violet begins to suspect leadership is hiding a terrible secret. Friends, enemies, lovers. Everyone at Basgiath War College has an agenda—because once you enter, there are only two ways out: graduate or die.

It was nothing special, but I still enjoyed the story very much most of the time. There was definitely not enough dragon-time in this book and way too much unrealistic teenage sex fantasies. The middle part was a page turner for sure though! It is predictable most of the times (which is good in a way) and at the same time unpredictable. There was a little too much randomness in the plot for me, as If the author didn't know how to connect some Plot Points. The Genre doesn't fit also. It is a romance in a Fantasy setting more than anything else, which is totally fine. Would've been nice If it would be marked as such, so you don't expect a Fantasy Story. The narrator did a really great job, one of my favorites I've heard on the Storytel App. Very talented!

A bit too much cliches and love and it's a tiny bit shallow. But I simply couldn't put it down. I loved the characters, who are smart and deep and really loveable. The enemys-to-lovers trope is just good. Only a true fantasy Junkie could foresee the plot twists, which are amazing especially the last. I can't wait for the next book and I am dying of excitement! Loved the book

Honestly I did not think it would be this bad. The storytelling was often lazy and irritating, especially the way it info dumped made no sense. Many things in it did not make any sense. The general premise had potential but the execution was painful to get through. The illogical actions of the protagonist hurt, considering she was often referred as very smart, which actually meant just book smart. And the nickname the love interest gave her was simultaneously stupid and made no sense. The narrator was fine and did the best with what was given.
