His Last Bow: Some Reminiscences of Sherlock Holmes

His Last Bow is the penultimate collection of Sherlock Holmes stories by Arthur Conan Doyle, containing seven detective tales published between 1908 and 1917, capped by the title story which is set on the eve of World War I. His Last Bow overall balances classic detective puzzles – cryptic clues, clever disguises, and Holmes's trademark deductions – with a subtle awareness that an era is ending. It's a fitting close to Holmes's Victorian-Edwardian adventures, concluding with the famous line: "Goodbye, Watson. (There's an East wind coming, Watson.)" – a metaphor for the turbulent change of the Great War and a poignant farewell from literature's great detective.
