Leviathan presents a bold vision of human nature and the foundations of political order. Writing amid civil conflict, Thomas Hobbes argues that without a strong authority, life descends into fear and instability. To escape this condition, individuals consent to a sovereign power—the Leviathan—that ensures peace and security. Hobbes develops a systematic account of the social contract, law, and governance, challenging assumptions about freedom and authority. His clear, forceful prose makes complex ideas accessible while provoking debate about the limits of power. This influential work shaped modern political philosophy and continues to inform discussions on rights, state power, and public order. For readers interested in how societies organize themselves, Leviathan offers a rigorous and enduring framework. This edition features clean, readable formatting, carefully preserved text, and is ideal for students, book clubs, and collectors of public domain classics. Discover why this work continues to influence literature, culture, and modern thought across generations.
