Miles Away

Miles Away is the story of a dozen pivotal Newcastle United fixtures told from the perspective of a fan without a ticket.

Written by Gary Sherrard, author of the critically acclaimed The Wilderness Years: Newcastle United 1978–84, the book features a unique dual narrative, pairing Newcastle United’s defining matches with the story of a supporter following from afar:

• The journey spans five unforgettable decades – from Keegan’s Entertainers to knife-edge promotion races, bruising relegation battles and a terrace hero’s unforgettable final strike • The narrative builds towards a dramatic climax: the club’s first domestic trophy in 70 years and a landmark Wembley win for Eddie Howe’s Black and White Army • Along the way, Gary encounters a technological revolution (moving from print and Teletext to the smartphone age), Harry Potter, Esther Rantzen, a European Cup semi-final shoot-out in another sport, plus a glorious afternoon with the London Geordies • The book is filled with club icons: Kevin Keegan, Peter Beardsley, Alan Shearer, Les Ferdinand, Tino Asprilla, Philippe Albert, Dan Burn and many more

With only 55, 000 tickets for a home game, there are countless supporters living the drama from the outside, proving distance is no barrier to an enduring passion for your team. A must-read for football-nostalgia lovers and Newcastle fans of all ages!
