Some Cases Make Themselves

She wasn’t looking for a partner. He had long stopped looking for a reason. Still, when a string of odd requests, lost pets that weren’t pets, locked rooms with no walls, clients who paid in riddles, kept arriving at the same time and place, they stopped arguing and started investigating.

She follows intuition. He prefers evidence. They rarely agree on anything except the facts, and even those are negotiable. Their working relationship is improvised at best, antagonistic at worst, but somehow, it works.
