That World Cup Guy

First-of-its-kind football travel memoir spanning nine World Cups – told by an England superfan with a flair for storytelling who became a ‘viral’ sensation.

Andy’s viral fame peaked during the 2022 Qatar World Cup, when fans noticed his distinctive look and began tracing his appearances at various past tournaments.

That World Cup Guy is a joyful, unpredictable journey through more than 40 years of football fandom, following Andy as he travels across the globe to attend nine World Cups – eight men’s and one women’s. This unique book brings you:

? A rare, evolving view of 40 years of the World Cup: both the competition and its growing global culture

? More than just football: it’s a book about the people, places and adventures that come with chasing the World Cup – from sleeping rough in Spain to partying with fans in the streets of Rio

? Cultural snapshots: whether it’s a Brazilian BBQ, an Italian piazza or a Thai beach bar, each story offers a vivid sense of place and community – an unofficial history of how the World Cup brings the world together

? Celebrity and surreal encounters: from chance meetings with drug smugglers and football legends to pretending to be a Romanian journalist to sneak into a stadium, the book is packed with offbeat, unforgettable moments

? Engaging, fan-driven writing: Andy writes with warmth, honesty and a light touch, making it easy for readers to join him in the highs and lows of following football’s greatest tournament

While rooted in England’s story, this is a book for anyone who loves football, travel or simply a good human story told with humour and insight.
