Whisper

Horatio brews the best philtres in South-Central Balkirk. As an outlaw alchemist who brews potions that grant temporary but powerful supernatural abilities, his way of life means that he's always on the run, either from the city rulers who would enslave him, or the addiction that comes with every dose.

Even with the help of his girlfriend Rin and loyal friend Devon, survival is anything but guaranteed. When a gang member hires Horatio to uncover why his boss, Marlini Fives, is tearing up a truce with their rivals to start a gang war, Horatio knows he should refuse. He and his friends are newcomers to Splendor District, and the last thing any of them need is attention. But money is short, and what begins as a simple investigation soon reveals a conspiracy that could lead to the bloody takeover of the entire district by Horatio's oldest enemies.

Caught between warring gangs, ruthless overlords, and the ever-present pull of his own addiction, Horatio must choose whether to remain a fugitive or risk everything to stop chaos from engulfing Splendor.

A gritty, fast-paced steampunk adventure, WHISPER is the first book in the Philtres of Balkirk series by R.A. Fisher.
