In this episode, I’m joined by Christine Devane, author of Elephant Beach, for a powerful conversation about supporting shy children and how they teach us about belonging. We explore how to help shy kids integrate into group settings without forcing them to perform, how to guide other children toward inclusion and empathy, and why patience is one of the most underestimated tools adults have.

Christine shares the inspiration behind her children’s book and explains how stories can help children understand that shyness isn’t something to fix. It’s something to respect. We talk about giving children the space to observe, feel safe, and join in on their own terms, and how this approach builds confidence that lasts far beyond childhood.

Parentification has been a strong pattern for generations making it a reference for how we must raise our children. It is in fact so strong that parents who are now trying to break this cycle are being ridiculed and judged harshly for being "too soft" with their children.

Children should be allowed to be children. In this episode, Danielle walks covers the causes that lead to adults expecting their children to take on the parenting role, two types of Parentifications that we often see, the long term effects parentification has on children once they reach adulthood, and what NOT to tell your eldest child.
