Viscount Horatio Nelson (1758-1805), known as ‘The Hero’ during his own lifetime was both an inspiring commander and an innovative tactician, becoming a rear admiral after defeating the Spanish fleet at the Battle of Cape St Vincent. Nelson was tragically killed by a musket shot from the mizen-top of a French ship during the Battle of Trafalgar on 21st October 1805 after effecting the greatest naval victory in the history of the Royal Navy.
