Puli

Known for his distinctive profuse coat of cords, his superior intelligence and his humorous ways, the Puli is not only a beloved companion dog but also a hard-working herding dog and an eye-catching show dog. The breed's uniqueness goes far beyond his woolly, naturally forming cords: this Hungarian shepherd breed is an exceptionally industrious, bouncy canine that is quick in mind and body. Written by well-respected English judge and long-time Puli breeder Ann Arch, this Special Limited Edition provides an insightful chapter on the breed's ancient origins and history in Europe as well as a special section on the breed in the United States and Canada written by guest author Stephanie Horan. Author Ann Arch also discusses the breed's characteristics and the breed standard as well as puppy selection, coat care and maintenance, and she offers specific instructions on rearing and caring for this exceptionally talented dog. This book also details the selection of a breeder and puppy; feeding the puppy, adult and senior dog; puppy-proofing and home safety; and much more. New owners will welcome the chapter on house-training, obedience and canine behavior to help mold their Pulik into biddable home companions. Additionally, a lavishly illustrated chapter on preventive healthcare by Dr. Lowell Ackerman provides up-to-date accurate information on infectious diseases, parasite prevention and control, selecting a veterinarian and other topics vital to the ownership of a healthy pure-bred dog.
