"The Shining," by Stephen King, tells the story of Jack Torrance, a struggling writer and recovering alcoholic, who takes a job as the winter caretaker at the remote Overlook Hotel in the Colorado Rockies. He brings his wife, Wendy, and their young son, Danny, with him. The hotel, with its dark history and isolation, begins to exert a malevolent influence over Jack. As the family becomes snowbound, Jack's sanity deteriorates, and he becomes increasingly violent. Danny, who possesses psychic abilities referred to as the “shining”, senses the evil presence in the hotel.
