Waking the Dead

A young Southern woman finds herself caught between the realm of the living and the forces of the afterlife in this supernatural fantasy series debut.

As caregiver to her chronically ill sister, Vivian Bedford is reaching her wit’s end. Then a freak accident, and a chance encounter with a dying man, turns her whole life upside down. A powerful connection has opened up between Vivian and the world of the spirits—a connection that comes with some serious responsibilities.

Lazarus Darkmore, a grim reaper in a charming and seductive package, wants to recruit Vivian as a soul broker. Guardian spirits Ezra and Zeke offer protection from the reaper—so long as she works on their side of afterlife management. But these guardians are certainly no angels.

Vivian has an ability that both the reapers and the guardians need. If she can control it, she can use this power as leverage. And she needs a bargaining chip, especially when she discovers that her disabled sister is a prime target for both sides of the afterlife
