King Shantanu marries Ganga, a celestial being, A curse, sons are the Vasus, their fate foreseeing. Devavratha, later Bhishma, vows celibacy true, To ensure Satyavathi's son the throne will pursue.

Bhishma abducts the princesses of Kashi's land, Amba, Ambika, and Ambalika, at his command. Amba seeks revenge, a vow to kill Bhishma makes, A battle with Parashurama, her fate it partakes.
