As civilization progressed, so too did the role of art. In Ancient Greece, art began to evolve from purely symbolic forms to more realistic representations of the human figure. The Greeks introduced the concept of ideal beauty, which emphasized proportion and symmetry. Sculptors like Phidias and Praxiteles focused on human anatomy, creating works that depicted gods and athletes with lifelike accuracy. These early Greek artists laid the foundation for much of Western art’s principles, including perspective, proportion, and the portrayal of the human form.
