Arthur Conan Doyle

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859-1930) was the preeminent figure in late 19th-century detective fiction. A physician by profession, he soon found such popularity as a writer of detective stories that his writing was far more profitable than his medical practice.

The Adventure of the Mazarin Stone is a Sherlock Holmes mystery in which Holmes is in pursuit of a stolen diamond. The Adventure of the Mazarin Stone: Sherlock Holmes Mysteries

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859-1930) was the leading detective writer of the late nineteenth century. A physician by profession, he soon found writing to be more profitable that medical practice and rapidly gained fame with his tales of the master sleuth, Sherlock Holmes.

In The Red-Headed League, Holmes is faced with a bizarre puzzle. His client, a red haired pawnbroker, had answered an odd advertisement from an organisation designed to promote the interests of red haired men. He is offered a highly paid job, which involves sitting in an office in fleet street between the hours of ten and two every day, copying out texts from the Encyclopaedia Britannica.

One morning he arrives at the office to find a notice on the door announcing that the Red Headed League has been dissolved. His own enquiries lead to nothing, so he takes his case to the famous Sherlock Holmes. Holmes immediately realises that a grave crime is about to be committed... and together with his trusty companion, Dr. Watson, he sets out to foil the plot.

The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle is a classic Sherlock Holmes story in which the Commissionnaire brings Holmes a hat and a goose which have been dropped by a man on the street, during an attempted mugging. Holmes is able to make some deductions about the mystery man from his hat - but it is the goose which provides the biggest mystery.

When the Commissionnaire takes it home to roast, his wife discovers a rare blue diamond in the bird's crop. Not just any diamond... the famous blue carbuncle which was recently stolen in a daring burglary at a smart London hotel. Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson set to work at once to solve the case.
