There is more to George Orwell than 1984 and Animal Farm. He was a man who understood the depth of human struggle and dwelled on the questions on poverty, work and forced idleness. He told the stories of people who were ignored by the fancy writers of those times and those stories made him a socialist. This book is an insightful journey undertaken on the streets of Paris and London, in the kitchens and cleaning spaces of low and high-end restaurants, stories of hawkers who sell books, to the casual workers. Some of it is humour and satire, especially the reasons he gave on why waiters can never be socialists or trade unionists.
