Coelho begins the novel by introducing the legend of Narcissus with a paradoxical view. In a nutshell, the story is based on a Shepherd who embarks on a journey to realise his dream that he saw of finding a hidden treasure near the pyramids of Egypt. He travels through the hardships of the Sahara desert in the search of his personal legend. While he meets a number of people who bring about a change in his life, the gypsy woman, the mysterious king, the pious merchant, Fatima, the proud desert woman, the English man and the alchemist. He learns to listen to his heart, to follow it's instructions, to keep faith in the destiny, to love unconditionally, to be fearless, to live in the present, to feel the soul of the universe and to understand the omens. The use of metaphors, allegories and those amazing anecdotes enhances it's beauty to a different level. It creates a great impact on you which lingers for quite a while. "Maktub"

Deep spiritual journey

I read the book in 2007 and had thoroughly enjoyed it and now I listened to the audio version and was able to view the lessons more intently.I am a reader and I prefer that and this was my first audio book and I enjoyed it a lot. It was engaging and very well paced.
