ABOUT THE ORIGINAL BOOK

“Sold” by Patricia McCormick tells the story of Lakshmi, a 13-year-old girl from a small village in Nepal, who is sold into the sex trade in India under false promises of work. As she arrives at a brothel in Calcutta, Lakshmi faces the brutal realities of exploitation, abuse, and the harsh conditions that trap her. Despite the pain and fear, she clings to hope and dreams of returning home. Through Lakshmi's journey, the novel explores themes of human trafficking, resilience, and the strength of the human spirit in the face of unimaginable adversity.
