#3 The first book of Samuel begins with the story of Elkanah and his two wives, Peninnah and Hannah. Hannah is barren, and everyone around her thinks she is cursed by God. She prays to the Lord for a child, and he grants her request.

#4 The book of 1 Kings records one of the darkest moments in the prophet Elijah’s life. He was afraid and depressed, and he prayed to die. He was on the verge of suicide.
