#2 The Marines and sailors of 2/3 worked hard to make the population respect them more than they fear them, and the enemy fear them more than they hate them.

#3 Too many Marines and other service members who fought in the Triad did not return home from their deployments. Others spent years recovering from their injuries. Not a day has gone by since I left battalion command that I have not reflected on their sacrifices.

#4 The 2nd Battalion of the 3rd Marine Regiment, known as the Island Warriors, was sent to the Haditha Triad region of western Iraq in late 2006. The Triad was a geographic term coined by the Marine Corps that consisted of the city of Haditha and a number of surrounding towns and villages.
