#1 On September 4, I spoke with Khrushchev’s ambassador about the missile buildup in Cuba. I was told by Khrushchev himself that the missiles were not offensive weapons, and that they would not be transferred to Cuba. These assurances were all lies.

#2 The feeling among the people was one of shocked disbelief. We had been deceived by Khrushchev, but we had also fooled ourselves. The information about the missiles was made available to the public before the missiles became operational, allowing the US to act.

#3 The group that met to discuss the Cuban missile crisis was made up of high-intelligence, industrious, and courageous individuals. They were dedicated to their country’s well-being.
