ABOUT THE ORIGINAL BOOK
The Island by Elin Hilderbrand tells the story of three women, Birdie, Chess, and Tate, who retreat to Tuckernuck Island to escape their everyday lives. They are joined by Birdie’s sister, India, and all four women are trying to cope with past trauma and current turmoil. The narrative focuses on their personal struggles as they deal with grief, guilt, and family secrets. Chess is battling depression after a broken engagement and a tragedy, Tate is trying to assert her independence and deal with a complicated relationship, while India confronts her past mistakes and her husband's suicide. The secluded island setting serves as both a refuge and a catalyst for confrontation and self-discovery. The women must learn how to face their personal demons and find a way to forgive themselves and move forward with their lives, all while trying to maintain their family bond.
