Smásögur
In the secluded hills of Massachusetts, the blood of man and cosmic horror is mixed.
The story is set in Dunwich, Massachusetts, a secluded, degenerate village nestled in the hills where the inhabitants are notorious for their superstition, strange rites, and physical anomalies. The narrative centers on the cursed Whateley family who live in a rotting farmhouse atop Sentinel Hill.
The old wizard Old Man Whateley possesses forbidden knowledge and, through an unspeakable ritual, fathers twin boys with his albino daughter, Lavinia. One twin is the visibly human, goat-like Wilbur Whateley, who grows at an unnaturally rapid rate, demonstrating occult genius and terrifying physical characteristics. The other twin is unseen, a vast, invisible creature that grows to colossal size inside the locked upper rooms of the farmhouse, guarded by a potent protective spell.
Wilbur Whateley seeks to acquire a complete copy of the Necronomicon (The Book of the Dead) from Miskatonic University, as he needs the final ritual to fully unleash his monstrous twin--his colossal, extraterrestrial father--upon the world.
When Wilbur is killed while attempting his theft, the protective spell binding the invisible twin breaks. The creature is finally free and begins a terrifying rampage across the hills, destroying farms and leaving behind monstrous, non-Euclidean footprints and a sickening, foul smell.
The horror is finally confronted by a group of professors from Miskatonic University (led by Dr. Armitage) who use powerful, ancient incantations to make the invisible monster momentarily visible, revealing its horrific, tentacled, and multi-limbed form before destroying it.
The Dunwich Horror is a core story of the Cthulhu Mythos and one of H. P. Lovecraft's most celebrated tales. It is a chilling fusion of folk horror, biological mutation, and cosmic invasion, centering on the profound, generational horror that results when humanity breeds with the terrible forces of the void.
