ATOOC: Panic at JFK

In this episode of Air Traffic Out Of Control, a Piper PA-28-236 aircraft (N51SW) takes off from JFK and almost immediately after take off, the cabin fills with smoke and the aircraft loses all engine power. The pilot, in a panic, radios the tower and asks to return immediately. Given the urgency, he doesn't have time to go around and make a proper approach, so he requests a landing in the opposite direction on the runway. The tower has no choice but to quickly get other aircraft to vacate the runway to allow the Piper to land. You will hear how shaken the pilot is after safely executing the emergency landing.
