Today’s episode is personal. It’s painful. And it’s important. We’re talking about the Armenian Genocide... a chapter of history that millions experienced, yet many still deny or have never been taught.

I’ve always known I wanted to cover this story because of my family history. But every time I tried, it never felt like the right moment. The truth is… there is no “right moment.” The right thing is to remember, to learn, and to honor those who lived through it... and those who didn’t.

In today's episode, we'll look at how the Armenian community in the Ottoman Empire was targeted, how the genocide was carried out under the chaos of World War I, the stories of survival and resistance, and why recognition of these events is still debated today.

History isn’t always pretty. But understanding it helps us recognize injustice when we see it... and stop it before it happens again.

I learned about a place in Alaska where more than 20,000 people have vanished — planes, hikers, politicians — and almost none have ever been found. And I had to do an episode on it.

So the other night I was deep into my usual bedtime routine of doomscrolling, and I stumbled across this headline that said: “DID YOU KNOW: The Last Witch Trial Was in 1944.”

And I was like… I’m sorry, what? 1944? Like while the rest of the world was fighting Nazis, someone was in a courtroom yelling, “She’s a WITCH”? Be for real. 

That sent me down one of the craziest rabbit holes yet. And I quickly realized… wow. Everything I thought I knew about witch trials… Changed. Forever. 

Not only was witchcraft something you could go to court for less than a hundred years ago, but the *FIRST* witch in America wasn’t even in Salem! The first witch trial in America happened DECADES before Salem!

184: The Devil's Secretaries or Scapegoats? The Witches History Erased

Hi friends, happy Wednesday!

So the other day, I was googling jelly beans. Don’t ask why, I was in a mood. But I ended up falling down a rabbit hole, and suddenly… I was reading about Ronald Reagan. 

Apparently, Reagan was *obsessed* with jelly beans. I guess he started eating them as a way to quit smoking. He swapped cigarettes for jelly beans. Inspired. 

But once he was hooked, he never looked back. There were jelly beans on Air Force One. Jelly beans in the Oval Office. Jelly beans sent to space with astronauts, I am not joking. 

At this point I stumbled onto a quote about his wife, Nancy Reagan, and let me just say...America may have called her the First Lady, but Hollywood had a slightly different title for her. If you know, you know.

So today, I’ve got quite a story for you. Blow jobs, secret weapon deals, astrology, and a very intense power couple. 

This man ignored a literal pandemic, while letting his wife schedule national security briefings based on his horoscope.

183: The MESSY Life of Ronald Reagan: Snitching, Scandals & DEADLY Decision

Hi friends, happy Wednesday!

The other day I was craving a big fat bowl of Honey Smacks cereal with whole milk. When I was a kid, that was luxury to me. But I hadn’t had them in forever so I didn’t even know if they were still around. 

You know me - I googled “HONEY SMACKS… DISCONTINUED??” Good news, they’re around. Bad news… I found out about Kellogg’s, the company that makes them, has been in some hot water lately. 

We all know inflation sucks and it’s affecting *everything*, especially food prices. Tons of families across America are struggling to put food on the table. 

So the media asked a Kelloggs CEO for his reaction on that. And his response? He essentially said, [SARCASTIC] “MAYBE THEY SHOULD EAT CEREAL FOR DINNER.” 

Awkward. But this did get me thinking - why *do* we eat cereal for breakfast? Well I looked into it, and I stumbled into the world of John Harvey Kellogg, the man behind Kelloggs. And my mind was blown. 

Because behind that sweet little box of Honey Smacks is a freaky origin story. We’re talkin’ culty health retreats, yogurt enemas, and a crusade against masturbation.

182: The Cult of Kellogg: Cornflakes, Celibacy, and Colonics??

Hi friends, happy Wednesday!

Listen… I know it’s not *officially* Fall yet, okay? But we all know Fall means Halloween, and Halloween is my favorite holiday. So I wanted to get started celebrating a little early this year. 

I did a soft launch on my decorations. Put out a few pumpkins and spider webs. The crows in my backyard approved. And I decided this weekend, I was going to see a scary movie. I found out the last Conjuring movie was coming out and I was so excited. 

This one is all about Ed and Lorraine Warren, the demonologists behind all the other Conjuring movies. And even though there have been *so* many Conjuring movies, I realized that I never looked into Ed and Lorraine Warren myself.

Hi friends, happy Wednesday!

Did you guys ever see those ads for the Rejuvenique face mask? It was this electric face mask that looked like it was straight out of Friday the 13th. 

The guy on the infomercials was like “imagine what doing 8 situps a second could do for your abs! Well, Rejuvenique is doing exactly that… but with your face!” 

Well, apparently, years later, the FDA issued a warning about this miracle device. Turns out, the Rejuvenique face mask was actually causing their skin to sag and age *more.* 

I could be wrong, but it makes me feel like it will only be another ten years before someone realizes that LED lights are *ALSO* doing more harm than good. 

And this sent me down a rabbit hole of beauty devices that are secretly, silently, killing us. From UV lights at the nail salon to asbestos in hair dryers… I have some questions.

So today, we are dipping our polished little fingertips into the world of deadly beauty tools. Because it turns out some of the stuff we do to feel cute - like the innocent little gel manicure - might come with a major dark side. Buckle up for the dark history of deadly beauty tools!
