He's also written for The Atlantic, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Bloomberg, Businessweek, Politico Magazine, Slate, and other publications. Today he discusses his new book, The Lumumba Plot. It centers ontThe very short and tragic career of the Republic of the Congo's first prime minister after gaining independence from Belgium in 1960. Patrice Lumumba served for just a few months before he was ousted from his position, arrested, tortured, and eventually executed. He was caught up in the international power struggle between the United States, the Soviet Union, the United Nations, and the Belgian government
