In this episode, Andrew and Jacob sit down with public-land bowhunter Benji Vote to break down how he consistently kills mature bucks in big hill-country and river-bottom terrain. Benji explains why he trusts fresh tracks over old rubs, how rain resets the woods, and the way he uses creeks, oxbows, and flooded timber to pin down where big deer actually travel.He walks through his process for finding “the right doe group,” reading historical sign versus hot sign, and how big bucks use water, edges, and wind to lock down does where other hunters won’t go. The guys dig into hunting the lockdown phase of the rut, all-day sits, watching how deer truly move in thick cover, and building the confidence to set up in weird spots—like chest-deep water—when the sign and conditions line up.Along the way, Benji shares stories of bucks that “whipped his tail” for seasons before he finally killed them, what those deer taught him about pressure and patterns, and how his mindset has shifted from just finding sign to understanding how a single mature buck uses a specific pocket of terrain.
