Our Friend Abe

Sit tight for a heartwarming story about a woman named Laura who lives in a little cabin in the woods that her father built. When she and her granddaughter befriend a gnome, her eyes become opened to a world of fairytale creatures and animals. Together, they embark on adventures and uncover the need to balance the hustle of modern life by opening their hearts and minds to the magic of nature.

Based on true events and inspired by traditional folklore tales, you will fall in love with its characters; including a family of gnomes, otters, a beautiful cardinal named Dean, an elf, a wood nymph, and an evil witch. After you read this book, you’ll look at your next walk in the woods a little differently. Was the breeze that caressed your face a spirit that drifted by you? Was the bird singing to you or following you through the woods? This book not only brings you a deeper appreciation for nature, but also teaches important lessons on life, nature, and balance--which are needed today more than ever.

This story is written by Orion Moondreamer Mata, who is of Yaqui descent, and grew up in the woods of Michigan. At the age of 17, Orion joined the army where he served as a Military Police Correction Specialist at the Ft. Leavenworth United States Disciplinary Barracks, then as a police officer--serving in a variety of roles from School Resource Officer (SRO), SRT, detective, patrolman, sniper, and more. Orion is the founder of the Shepherds Motorcycle Club, which has raised tens of thousands of dollars to support military, fire, and police communities. He is also an accomplished woodworker, making custom cultural pieces. Orion is the father of four wonderful children and is supported by his beautiful wife Heather, who holds down the fort while he's out protecting our community. He also has two beautiful and stinky grandchildren who will enjoy the wonders of this book as they visit the cabin that this story is about.
