#1 The author compares human existence in the modern era to that of a pilot practicing high-speed maneuvers in a jet fighter. Most of us live at high-speed, and we have no idea whether we are flying upside down or right-side up.

#2 There is no longer a recognized moral knowledge on which to base projects of fostering moral development. If you lowered a student’s grade just for saying on a test that discrimination is morally acceptable, the student could contest that grade to the administration.

#3 If a student wrote on a test that 7 times 5 equals 32, or that Columbus discovered America in 1520, we would be allowed to impose our views on them. These are matters that are regarded as known.

#4 The problem is not connecting character to intellect, but connecting intellectual with moral and spiritual realities. The problem is that character is connected with the intellect, which means what is and is not in the intellect.
