#2 Bad bosses are oblivious to the fact that leading people requires humility, savvy, authenticity, and keen interpersonal skills. They attempt to lead people as Douglas attempted to lead William, with the autocratic I am the boss of you; therefore you must do what I say! When that doesn’t work, bad bosses resort to manipulation, screaming, micromanagement, intimidation, fear, and even pouting to get what they want.
#3 People don’t leave companies, they leave managers. Far too many people leave jobs and companies they love because they hate their leader. A study by Florida State University found that of people working for difficult bosses: 30 percent slowed down or purposely made errors, compared with 6 percent of those not reporting abuse.
#4 The relationship between employees and managers is the pivot point on which most of an organization's success rests. Companies lose billions of dollars in lost productivity and turnover due to the incompetent, abusive, and belligerent leaders they employ.
