“Perfectly unsettling and deeply felt, this reminded me of the best kind of fairytales wherein each chapter is a jewel that, when held up to the light, reframes how we see the world around us.” —Roshani Chokshi, New York Times bestselling author of The Star-Touched Queen and Aru Shah and the End of Time

An absolute gem of a tale. Each sentence is lovingly crafted to reflect the joys and horrors we trace in our time upon this earth.A haunting parable that shines a light upon the brutality of fascism and enshrines those forgotten heroes we abandoned as they fled to the mountains for a final stand against Franco's dictatorship. Will we once again abandon those who fight the forces of evil that swirl about us today? I truly hope we do not, but our past failures do not bode well.
