There’s a serial killer on the loose, bent on working his way through the alphabet. And as a macabre calling card he leaves beside each victim’s corpe the ABC Railway Guide open at the name of the town where the murder has taken place.
Having begun with Andover, Bexhill and then Churston, there seems little chance of the murderer being caught – until he makes the crucial and vain mistake of challenging Hercule Poirot to frustrate his plans…

I really like mysteries and I'm a fan of Poirot, but unfortunately this one isn't my favorite. It started out very well with a nice twist and I was sure this wóuld be one of my favorites: why had the murderer chosen Poirot to write to, how would Poirot manage to be in time to prevent the next murder, why did the murderer choose to follow the alphabet when choosing his victims? Unfortunately the end was a bit of a let down. I just didn't believe that, after all his hard work, the murderer would get so sloppy in the end. And there were some other small details that made me think either Christie was in a hurry to finish the book or inspiration went dry to give it a good ending. It could have easily been a 4 star rating but because of these details in the last chapter, I feel I have to round down to 3 stars.Love Hugh Fraser as a narrator though, I think his voice suits Poirot and Hastings. I liked this audiobook way better than the Dutch one. So I might change my rating to 4 stars…
