ForutsigbarNervepirrendeIt’s both thrilling and predictable. It would have been better without the rather disappointing revelation at the end and the unnecessary bit with the mayor. It was nice seeing Jayne taking on a more responsible role, but the ending lacks a feeling of impact. The story becomes a not that important episode rather than a part of the greater firefly story. Another issue is the prose, I find the description of river at the beginning of the book to be sleezy and uncomfortable to read, which unfortunately is an issue that is prevalent in this author’s writing. He writes women in a sleezy way. Naming a whole chapter the scent of a companion is icky, like he’d never focus a chapter on the scent of Jayne or Mal. Though on the bright side I enjoyed the action, especially the penultimate showdown. And Zoe and Wash being great together. I also enjoyed the more tender moment with Jayne and River, especially since they have such an interesting dynamic.
