#1 You can overcome procrastination by applying the 80/20 rule. This principle, originally stated by Vilfredo Pareto, states that you get 80 percent of your results from 20 percent of your efforts. Thus, most of your results come from a handful of tasks.

#2 The 80/20 rule is applied to determine what's important and what's not. What's important are the activities that generate the greatest results and happiness. What's not important are the activities that take up lots of time and provide little reward in return.

#3 Your time is a finite resource. Whenever you’re faced with a new potential project or task, ask yourself whether it helps or hurts your 80 percent activities. If it hurts, avoid it at all costs. Remember: never let other people’s priorities become your own.

#4 If you have trouble finding time for a new project, then you’ll need to look at everything you do on a regular basis. Odds are, you do certain things that take away from your 80 percent tasks. These should be eliminated or delegated.
