A post-apocalyptic thriller of the after effects in the United States after a terrifying terrorist attack using electromagnetic pulse weapons.
In a small North Carolina town, one man struggles to save his family after America loses a war that will send it back to the Dark Ages.
Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based on a real weapon—the electromagnetic pulse (EMP)—which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States, literally within one second.
In the tradition of On the Beach, Fail Safe, and Testament, this book, set in a typical American town, is a dire warning of what might be our future and our end.

Ciekaww diagnoza tego świata. Niestety znowu Ameryka to pępek świata. I szkoda, że wszystko z perspektywy głównego bohatera. Brak bardziej zarysowanych bohaterów. Da się jednak odsłuchać. Chwilami jednak za długie analizy pewnych wątków. Brak nieco akcji.

Started slow but became a page turner. Very thought provoking.

The book has shortcomings. But its strength is that the author did the math. This book is an realistic account of the consequences of an EMP and it hits like brick to the guts. It puts into perspective what how much more devastation a high altitude nuclear blast can cause, in comparison to what ppl are generally are afraid of when it comes to nukes.

Oh John. He's a soldier, he's a professor. He's a women magnet and the best daddy. He always says the right thing and people always seem to say what he'd like to hear. The way the story unfolds other characters will be kissing his balls and addressing him as 'my dearest emperor of humanity' by the end of the book. The premise is interesting, but the true disaster here is the dialogue. I gave up half way.
