Hiro Arikawa föddes 1972 i Kōchi, Japan.
2003 vann hon en tävling för nya författare, med romanen Shiono Machi: Wishon My Precious, och det blev startskottet för hennes litterära karriär. En av hennes mest kända böcker är Tabinekoripôto (En katts resedagbok) som blivit en internationell bästsäljare och nu även har filmatiserats.
Hiro Arikawa bor i Tokyo.
