A Desolation Called Peace is the spectacular space opera sequel to A Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine, winner of the 2020 Hugo Award for Best Novel.
An alien terror could spell our end
An alien threat lurks on the edges of Teixcalaanli space. No one can communicate with it, no one can destroy it, and Fleet Captain Nine Hibiscus is supposed to win a war against it.
In a desperate attempt to find a diplomatic solution, the fleet captain has sent for a diplomatic envoy to contact the mysterious invaders. Now Mahit Dzmare and Three Seagrass - both still reeling from the recent upheaval in the Empire - face an impossible task. They must attempt to negotiate with a hostile entity, without inadvertently triggering the destruction of themselves and the Empire.
Whether they succeed or fail could change the face of Teixcalaan forever.
'All-round brilliant space opera, I absolutely loved it' - Ann Leckie on A Memory Called Empire
'A cutting, beautiful, human adventure … The best SF novel I've read in the last five years' - Yoon Ha Lee on A Memory Called Empire

A little bit flowery and at times tedious. The main character was unlikable and the world building lacked substance . The plot could have been good but it was hard to get invested in the story . I did manage to listen to the end thinking it would get better ... it didn’t ...

Bra bok, men mer av en politisk thriller än en rymdopera. Precis som första boken fann jag den ganska "svårtuggad" och jag tror inte riktigt att jag förstod allt författaren försökte säga, men jag ger boken full pott i alla fall.

Such a delight. The first book was good, this one was great.

Did not listen to either this or the first book to the end which is very unusual for me. Boring. Nothing happens. No ideas are presented. It is just a long rambling.

So I listened to the first book as well and I still don't know what the overly contrived titles given to different community groups, leaders etc mean. Very long winded political and poetry focused series with a strong basis in technologies that are already almost outdated. (seriously why would people living on an isolated space station have a bunch of paper based books, graphic novels and messaging systems??)

Bra första bok, andra boken var bra tills allt började handla om sex.

Lättlyssnad och trivsam bok med spännande äventyr OCH en intressant diskussion om Medvetande och förutsättningar att nå och inte nå varandra som människor. Mycket elegant
