#1 The villagers of Belgium had heard the sounds of war coming their way for nearly a week now, as the gunfire from the west grew closer and closer to the border. The villagers knew it would soon be their turn too.

#2 The first columns of peasants fleeing from the west, heavily laden with the pathetic bits and pieces they had managed to rescue, began to pass through the border villages heading for the safety of the interior.

#3 On September 10, the bridges over the frontier rivers were blown. The Amis were almost there.

#4 The locals were dismayed to find out that they would be forced to flee their homes once again. They had not anticipated that they would be required to leave their homes once the Amis reached the German positions in the West.
