Take your Italian to the next level with Coffee Break Italian Advanced. Join native speaker Francesca and teacher Mark as they guide you through the intricacies of the language. This podcast is aimed at learners working at B1/B2 level and we'll be covering grammatical structures and topics appropriate to this level. In each episode Mark and Francesca will discuss a language point, and then you'll listen to a dialogue which features examples of the language point, helping you consolidate what you've learned.

We’re here with the final episode of Coffee Break Italian Season 3! In the last chapter of “Il tesoro di Montespelonca” Professor Doppi’s motives are revealed: will he keep the treasure to himself or will it share it with the children? You will be able to really put yourself to the test with some advanced grammar points, including verbs in the passato remoto, conditional perfects and if clauses. Watch out for interesting new vocabulary like stivaloni, cenno and intraprendenza and don’t miss out on a special cosina of Dantesque flavour!

CBI 3.40 | Il tesoro di Montespelonca | Tutto è bene, quel che finisce bene!

We’re back with the penultimate episode of Coffee Break Italian Season 3! In this chapter of our story series “Il tesoro di Montespelonca” after making it to the cave, Alessandro and his friends decide to confront the person they believe is stealing the treasure hidden. Meanwhile, a terrible storm is flooding the cave. Will our protagonists manage to save themselves and the treasure? This episode will help you consolidate your knowledge of hypothetical clauses and the formal imperative. There is also some exciting vocabulary to discover, including the famous adverb mica and an Italian proverb on rain: cielo a pecorelle, pioggia a catinelle.

CBI 3.36 | Il tesoro di Montespelonca | D’ora in poi me la caverò da solo!

We’re back with another episode of Coffee Break Italian Season 3 and our fifth instalment of “Il tesoro di Montespelonca"! In this part of the story Alessandro and his friends visit the village’s local historian, Professor Doppi, to find out more about the legend of the cave. He says that, according to some old documents, there could be an actual cave below the mountain but it has never been explored as the passage seems to be blocked. He also gives them a big book containing a chapter on ‘Le Torrette’, two ancient towers on the mountain near the village. Apparently, these towers indicated the way towards a hidden path to the cave used by bandits, but the path to this day has not been found…

Welcome back to Coffee Break Italian Season 3. In episode 34 we are listening to the fourth segment of our story series 'Il tesoro di Montespelonca'! Alessandro and his three friends visit Nina, Alessandro's Nonna, who tells them about the legend of an underground cave going through the mountain near her wheat fields. Allegedly, hens would sometimes disappear when people took them to the market, and they would then reappear on the other side of the mountain, as if by magic. Alessandro wonders if Stella could be hiding in this legendary cave but when he returns home he is surprised to see his dog, found by a farmer in his own field, right on the other side of the mountain!

In this episode of Coffee Break Italian Season 3 we listen to the third instalment of our story series 'Il tesoro di Montespelonca'! In this part of the story the residents of Montespelonca gather for a dinner in the square followed by a night walk to enjoy the stars. Alessandro and his friends tell a little lie and decide to look for the wolf instead but as they are searching they hear a terrifying noise! In this episode, among other things, you can observe how adjectives change their meaning depending on whether they are placed before or after nouns. There are also some nice set phrases like: in lungo e in largo and a gambe levate.

CBI 3.32 | Il tesoro di Montespelonca | Qualcosa di strano nell’aria

In this episode of Coffee Break Italian Season 3 we are introducing our new story series ‘Il tesoro di Montespelonca’! Throughout the story we will put into practice all of the grammar and structures covered in the first 30 episodes of Season 3. It is set in Montespelonca, a lovely village in the centre of Italy and we follow Alessandro, an eleven year old boy, who lives there with his family and dog, Stella. The village is busy for the yearly Sagra della Lenticchia (the Lentil Festival) and all seems going well until Alessandro realises that Stella has run away. Despite looking for her everywhere, she cannot be found and Alessandro is seriously worried!

Welcome to another episode of Coffee Break Italian Season 3! This time we’re introducing a new type of verb: the conditional mood. Join Mark and Francesca as they explain how and when to use the conditional in order to be more polite; to give advice; and to say that something would happen or occur if circumstances were different. We then hear the conditional in context during a conversation between two characters at a doctor’s appointment. Along the way, we hear some useful expressions including fare gli straordinari and non se ne parla nemmeno!.
