A weekend fiasco has thrown Britain’s immigration and prison system into chaos after Hadush Kebatu, an asylum seeker jailed for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in Epping, was mistakenly released from Chelmsford prison. He was meant to be deported to Ethiopia but was freed in error, sparking a two-day manhunt before his recapture in North London. 

Justice Secretary David Lammy faced MPs over the blunder, unveiling new mandatory checks for every prison release, but governors warn it’s unworkable. Meanwhile, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has also been forced to respond as frustration grows over the Government’s handling of immigration and the spiralling cost of migrant hotels.

Tim is joined by Assistant Comment Editor Poppy Coburn to discuss Labour's latest headache, the collapse of Labour’s grooming gangs inquiry, and they're also joined by Reform UK’s head of policy, Zia Yusuf, for his take on both the prison fiasco and the controversy surrounding his own party MP Sarah Pochin, after she said adverts “full of black and Asian people” drive her mad.

Zia Yusuf on migrant hotel blunder: 'The British state’s descent into a Monty Python sketch is complete'

When 19-year-old Jay Slater went missing and was later found dead in Tenerife, his family never expected the online frenzy that would compound their nightmare.

Social media ‘sleuths’ spread conspiracy theories that Jay was murdered over a drug debt, or that his disappearance was a scam to raise money. Trolls even set up accounts pretending to be Jay and accused his mum, Debbie Duncan, of faking her tears.

Now Debbie is calling for a change in the law to protect grieving families like hers from harmful misinformation. She sits down with Camilla to explain the impact of online trolling, her campaign for Jay’s Law, and how she wants her beloved son to be remembered.

Jay Slater’s mum: How online trolls made my life hell

Even the most innumerate among us has heard of the Laffer curve, a theory popularised by US economist and presidential advisor Arthur Laffer. It spells it out how, beyond a particular threshold, increasing taxes actually brings down revenue.

Camilla and Tim are joined by the legendary economist – who has worked with Presidents Trump and Reagan and was a friend of Margaret Thatcher – to discuss the upcoming Budget, Trump's tariffs, and whether Nigel Farage has a coherent economic plan.

Laffer also weighs in on Liz Truss, who he says was "thinking in the right direction" with her mini-Budget, and explains why a wealth tax would be a "huge mistake".

Reeves needs a lesson on tax – legendary economist Arthur Laffer

With Labour’s chaotic grooming gangs inquiry continuing to fall apart, Kemi Badenoch used Prime Minister’s Questions to tell Keir Starmer the victims were “right to call it a cover-up”.

Camilla and Tim discuss who might become the next chairman of the inquiry and accusations that Labour wants to “water down” the investigation.

Elsewhere, Camilla speaks to Jay Darkmoore, who resigned from the police last year after nearly a decade in the force, and now claims that the “rotten” organisation “breaks the law to chase stats” and “punishes officers who don’t tow the line”.

Starmer accused of rape gang cover up

On today's edition of The Daily T, Camila is joined in the studio by journalist and broadcaster Piers Morgan, to talk about his new book 'Woke is Dead'.

Piers talks about how his friend Donald Trump's re-election brought an end to the "insane woke ideology", how Nigel Farage nearly torpedoed his interview with the President, why Sadiq Khan needs to "grow up" and Harry and Meghan's "increasing irrelevance".

He also talks about the killing of Charlie Kirk, a man he'd interviewed on numerous occasions, and the "disgraceful" reaction from many on the left, including the at-the-time incoming president of the Oxford Union.

Piers Morgan: 'Harry and Meghan represent the worst of the woke'

Following the news that Prince Andrew is to give up his titles and honours, after more damaging headlines about the extent of his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein and the publication of Virginia Giuffre’s posthumous memoir, Andrew Lownie, the Prince’s biographer, joins Camilla and Tim in the studio on today’s Daily T.

Lownie tells Camilla and Tim that he believes Prince William drove the move to Andrew relinquish his titles, in an attempt at damage control ahead of more potentially embarrassing revelations. He claims that it’s “too little, too late” and that he should have been stripped of his titles by parliamentary act if necessary, as “nothing much has actually changed”.

He also explains how the Prince’s links to the Chinese spy scandal may have played a role in the decision, claiming his behaviour over the years can be explained by a childhood in which he was “shown no boundaries and no discipline”.

Carol Thatcher: The Tories stabbed my mother in the back and it stayed with her

Rachel Reeves has admitted that next month’s Autumn Budget will see Labour raise taxes on the wealthy.

As she was heading to Washington for meetings with the IMF, The Chancellor told Sky News she was “looking at tax and spending” ahead of the November 26th fiscal event, and then went on to tell The Guardian that taxes on the wealthy “will be part of the story”.

On today’s Daily T podcast, Camilla Tominey and Tim Stanley are joined by Sunday Telegraph editor Allister Heath, who calls Reeves’s plans “delusional”, that her blaming Brexit for economic stagnation proves Labour “doesn’t understand Britain” and says that “the moment you start saying to wealthy people ‘we’re going to confiscate your money’, it’s the beginning of the end”.

Labour’s tax lies exposed

It’s the fourth anniversary of the murder of Sir David Amess, the Conservative MP who was killed by an Islamic State sympathiser during a surgery in his Southend constituency. At Prime Minister’s Questions this lunchtime, Sir Keir Starmer paid tribute to a “much-loved”, “kind” and “generous” man and talked of the “huge loss” many across the house still feel.

Watching on from her home in Los Angeles was Sir David’s daughter, Katie, and she tells Camilla Tominey and Tim Stanley on today’s Daily T of her disgust at hearing the Prime Minister paying such a fulsome tribute when he’d “ignored (her) letters” and had been “so disrespectful” after she’d “pleaded with him to hold an inquiry” into the failings that allowed Sir David’s murderer to slip through the net.

Camilla and Tim also reflect on the questions that still need to be answered about the China spying scandal, as well as Sir Keir calling for a calming of the political rhetoric whilst simultaneously accusing Reform of being “Kremlin cronies”.

'It's absolutely disgusting': Sir David Amess's daughter slams Starmer's tribute to murdered MP

The Government is under huge pressure to explain why the high-profile trial of two men accused of spying for China collapsed just weeks before it was due to begin.

Former parliamentary researcher Christopher Cash and Christopher Berry were charged under the Official Secrets Act, accused of gathering sensitive information for Beijing between December 2021 and February 2023. Both men have always maintained their innocence. Now, ministers face mounting criticism after the Crown Prosecution Service said the case failed because key evidence linking China to national security threats was never provided. 

In today’s episode of The Daily T, Camilla and Jacob Rees-Mogg discuss how a collapsed spy case could spell serious trouble for Starmer’s Government. We’re also joined by Tory MP Tom Tugendhat who points out that his party repeatedly described China as a threat to the country whilst in Government.
