"It's absolutely delightful, and I would recommend it to anyone who's a fan of Sarah Caudwell, or Agatha Christie, or anyone who loves really clever British murder mysteries set in the '20s." - Gillian Flynn, author of Gone Girl.
On his return from South Africa, Charles Knox is invited to spend the weekend at the country home of Sir Neville Strickland, whose beautiful wife Rosamund was once Knox's fiancée. But in the dead of night Sir Neville is murdered. Who did it? As suspicion falls on each of the house guests in turn, Knox finds himself faced with deception and betrayal on all sides, and only the enigmatic Angela Marchmont seems to offer a solution to the mystery. This 1920s whodunit will delight all fans of traditional country house murder stories.

This is quite possibly the best Golden Age whodunnit never written in the 1920’ies. It’s all there - the viewpoint character made of English oak, upright, honourable, but not too bright, returned from abroad. The house party. The love lost, new love beckoning. The well wrought plot where suspicion falls on one guest after another. And just the right period details - but not too much. The one thing that feels more modern than 1920’ies is the scruples of having revealed a murderer - the whodunnits of the era are more unequivocally of the opinion that murder must out. Nicely read.

Själva mysteriet var lite förutsägbart men jag gillar den ändå, en mysdeckare värd namnet

Unbelievable! As in; The main character is do badly written that you will be unable to believe it. No man is that stupid, easily duped, witless, fickle and trusting. As for the plot; You know who’s going to die and who the murderer is as soon as you’re introduced to the house party. Game over. After that it’s just a soul-withering bore ‘til the book is over.

En riktigt bra deckare man inte lägger ifrån sig "boken" i första taget. Med många intressanta vinklar och vrår.
